Newton Physical Therapy Suite

The relocation of the Physical and Occupational Therapy Clinics to a basement shell space below the emergency department provided many challenges including patient access and a total lack of natural light.  Two elevators were added providing convenient access directly from the patient parking areas and the natural light challenge was overcome with a variety of lighting coves, faux skylights and decorative lighting fixtures which provide the impression of natural lighting. Also included in the design are neighboring Wound Care and Adult Clinics, and a two-chamber Hyperbaric Suite.

Women’s Association Parking Garage

As part of the overall campus redevelopment plan, Morristown Hospital sought to construct a new parking structure for its staff. The parking structure needed to accommodate over 1,000 vehicles. Buckl Architects developed a neighborhood-sensitive design which visually minimizes the size of the structure reflecting Federal Style details common to the town’s architecture. This resulted in a façade that disguises the purpose of the building and blends into the streetscape. A two deck future expansion providing 500 additional spaces was incorporated into the original design and has now been completed.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit

As part of an overall campus expansion, new medical and surgical critical care units were created. Each unit features elongated central charting areas with patient rooms that are angled to provide maximum visibility to patient rooms for staff and to capture abundant natural light. This angle also creates strong visual interest within the unit by creating varied wall and ceiling surfaces and widening the circulation space to make the unit feel much more open and spacious. The use of quality finishes and details both in the rooms and at the charting areas decrease the institutional feel and make this high tech area feel just a bit more comforting!

Overlook Womens Center

With the breast imaging center at its core, the women’s center included a variety of women’s outpatient services in a friendly, hotel-like environment.  The center includes a breast center, Maternal Fetal Medicine suite, Integrative Medicine, and a time share suite for additional women’s services.  Also included in a separate portion of the floor was a wound care center with two hyperbaric chambers. The entire project included the renovation of approximately 20,000 square feet.
