Williams Art Center

Situated at the base of College Hill, the Williams Visual Arts Building is a transformation of a former Hoffman Motor Co. into a high tech art studio and gallery. Set within an urban context with particular regard to public access, its structure rises from the banks of the Bushkill Creek and anchors itself proudly at the termination of the Third street corridor.

The buildings primary entry façade is rhythmic. Its carefully manipulated surface offers glimpses into the art gallery and the community art studio. Further into the building the sculpture studio views into its walled courtyard, a peaceful space sheltered from the sounds of the city, an outdoor room that opens to the sky.

Buckl Architects, in association with Joseph N. Biondo Architect, has been recognized by the Pennsylvania chapter of the AIA, and has received the 2002 Silver Medal Award, the highest AIA award for design excellence.

“The Williams Visual Arts Building will be one of nations leading high-tech facilities for art education…”
Arthur J. Rothkopf, President, Lafayette College
